CSAP's History

Envisioned by the late Ramon, “Mano Amon” Durano Sr., the establishment of Colegio de San Antonio de Padua (CSAP) came to fruition on September 4, 2003. It was made possible through the joint effort of the former Congressman and Secretary of Tourism Joseph Felix Mari “Ace” Durano, Danao City Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III, and Congressman Ramon “Red” Durano VI, along with the support and hard work of Mesdames Carmen and Carmel Luzuriaga Durano

The dream of offering quality and affordable education to the people of the fifth district of the province of Cebu was finally realized in the year 2004, the first year of school operations.  Inspired by the values and teachings of Saint Anthony of Padua of Lisbon, CSAP opened its doors to the youth, especially the poor who could not afford tertiary education in Cebu City.  Many of them became scholars of the Durano family who transformed their lives through CSAP education.

Without constructing a new facility at that time, the college made use of the former Ramon Durano Foundation Medical Center at the Ramon Durano Foundation Compound in Brgy. Guinsay, Danao City.  As a young educational institution, the limited manpower had multiple functions. Dr. Herminia O. Fernandez became the college dean of the pioneer degree programs, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Diploma in Midwifery. She was also the officer in charge of the Bachelor of Secondary Education and Bachelor of Elementary Education programs.

Meanwhile, a 2-year Advanced Diploma in Computer Studies was also offered that opening year. In 2006, Dr. Alberto A. Jumao-as Jr. was appointed dean of the College of Teacher Education and was concurrently the school administrator and registrar.  To be more responsive to the educational aspirations of the people in this part of the province, additional programs were offered.  Students from the hinterlands and far-flung barangays were given opportunities to realize their dreams here in Danao City.

Thus, in school year 2005-2006, another degree program was offered, the Bachelor of Science in Criminology with only 7 pioneer enrollees. In the same school year, another milestone of CSAP happened when the pioneer batch of the 2-year Diploma in Midwifery program graduated. Moreover, in school year 2009-2010, three (3) engineering programs were successfully granted government initial permit, Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

Likewise, the College of Business, Information and Technology Education (BITE) was also offered that school year.  It consists of degree programs such as, Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS), Bachelor of Science in Office Administration (BSOAd), and Bachelor of Science in Travel Management (BSTrM), now BS Tourism Management, and Bachelor of Science in Accounting Technology, now BS Accounting and Information Systems.

In school year 2011-2012, Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering were offered, although, the latter except Civil Engineering had been closed due to scarcity of qualified deans and chairs.

With the increasing number of students and school personnel, priorities and concerns of the school had to be addressed. The members of the Board of Trustees felt the need to professionalize and systematize the management and supervision of the school’s operations.

They decided to engage with the Lasallian Schools Supervision Association, Inc. (LASSAI) through its mission arm, the Lasallian Schools Supervision Office (LASSO). Hence, in school year 2011-2012, the college underwent assessment prior to its formal engagement with LASSAI.

Consequently, starting school year 2012-2013, it was on Consultancy Status for five (5) years with Dr. Genesa P. Paragados, the President of De La Salle Andres Soriano Memorial College as the designated LASSO Consultant and then Supervisor.

CSAP continued to expand its reach just to respond to the evolving educational needs of the youth not only in the fifth district but also in other parts of the province and neighboring islands.

In June 2014, the College of Information Technology Education, now College of Business Education and Information Systems, was opened.  In the same year, the construction of Msgr. Pascual Ypil (MPY) 2-storey building was done in preparation for the offering of the stand-alone senior high school curriculum.

Msgr. Pascual Ypil was the first administrator of the Ramon M. Durano Foundation; hence, the building was named after him. The CSAP Senior High School Department was then established in June 2016 with the pioneer batch of 475 Grade 11 students.   It offered four (4) strands in the academic track, namely, Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) and General Academic (GA) strand.

Alongside the academic track, the department also offered Technical-Vocational Livelihood track, with the following strands; Home Economic Strand with specializations in Caregiving, Cookery, and Household Services, Information  and Communications Technology (ICT) Strand with specializations in Computer Hardware Servicing and Technical Drafting, Industrial (IA) Strand with specializations in Automotive Servicing, Plumbing, and Shielded Metal Arc Welding,  four (4) of which are TESDA-Accredited Programs. In December 2016, CSAP became a TESDA Assessment Center for Shielded Metal Arc Welding NC I and Shielded Metal Arc Welding NC II.

To address the school’s growing population, the construction of the four (4) storey building at SANDS campus began in 2016.  The following school year, the facility housed majority of college classes except, Nursing and Engineering, which remained in the Main Campus at Barangay Guinsay.

In February 2017, the college department underwent LASSO Assessment and in the ensuing school year, it was granted Supervised Probationary Status. Since school year 2019-2020, Colegio de San Antonio de Padua has offered a total of 15 undergraduate programs with the addition of BS Psychology and AB English.

To further assist the faculty and the students in their General Education courses, the College of Arts and Sciences was established together with the College of Business Education and Information Systems (formerly Business Information and Technology Education, BITE).

From the original enrollment of more or less 200 students in 2004, CSAP has reached 3,340 as of July 4, 2019. In that school year, the Board of Trustees appointed a new school president, the former LASSO Supervisor of CSAP, Dr. Genesa P. Paragados, to assume the office vacated by Congressman Ramon “Red” Durano VI.

Even if COVID 19 pandemic has threatened the school operations in school year 2020-2021 to the present, CSAP never cowered nor flinched but bravely continued its mission amidst growling anxieties and uncertainties. Through its adopted Blended Learning, the school continued to sail on despite setbacks of the Modular Distance Learning and the intermittent internet connectivity.  One consoling fact though is that enrolment has continued to increase which reached 3,687 as of Oct.1, 2021.

Moreover, on June 4, 2021, CSAP became an official member of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP). The surge of enrolment in the college department and other blessings inspired the whole community to look at the brighter side of life.  As one strong community who believes in Divine Providence, CSAP continues to upgrade its standards with the guidance of the Lasallian Schools Supervision Office. In fact, the college department is now in the Supervised Level I status and for the senior high school, Supervised Probationary.

In the process, the able guidance and “accompervision” of the LASSO Executive Director and currently LASSO Supervisor of CSAP, Br. Ophelia S. Fugoso, AFSC has also encouraged the community to live out the core values of compassion, integrity, and dedication.

Through the able leadership and cooperation of the members of the President’s Council, Ms. Maria Teresa T. Celis, Vice President for Administration, Dr. Alberto A. Jumao-as Jr., Vice President for Academics and Research, Engr. Elsidra Mabalcon, Vice President for Student Affairs and Services; Dr. Nerissa Remarca, the Senior High School Principal, and Ms. Liezly D. Blanquero, Assistant Vice President for Finance, CSAP continues to focus on carrying out its development programs for the six (6) areas of supervision anchored on the CSAP strategic plans.

With indomitable spirit, the CSAP community has continued to grow bigger and stronger. Despite challenges met along the way, people continued to trust in its capacity to transform lives for the better. A concrete proof of this is the surge of enrollment which is now very close to 5000. Moreover, with the growing population, CSAP is hapy to see expansions of campuses. From the Main campus at Guinsay to Sands Campus at the Danao City proper and soon the Durano campus at Brgy. Guinsay, just across the main campus.

With the ongoing construction, we get excited about seeing the birth of a new campus that will provide comfort in learning to our students with the needed laboratories and other important facilities. With Vitality, Identity, Transformation and Association, the Board of Trustees, Operations Council and the entire school community looks forward to more enrollees to serve and sufficient resources to better fulfill CSAP’s avowed vision, mission, goals and objectives.

After 19 years of existence, CSAP is proud to have produced thousands of professionals who have reached heights in their careers in the country and abroad. Seeing successful and fulfilled alumni, we are happy and proud to say that indeed CSAP is a true gateway to better lives! Ascendo Paduans!
